Meta non crede più negli NFT: il progetto per portarli su Instagram e Facebook è morto

Meta ha annunciato che terminerà tutti i progetti legati agli NFT (Non-Fungible Token) annunciati precedentemente sulle piattaforme di Instagram e Facebook.

A dichiararlo è Stephan Kasriel, responsabile per il commercio e la finanza di Meta, sottolineando che l’azienda ha preso questa decisione in maniera tale da riuscire a focalizzarsi su altri modi per supportare i creators, le persone e le imprese.

Gli NFT sono un tipo di token crittografico che utilizza la tecnologia blockchain per rappresentare in modo univoco un’opera d’arte, un video, un brano musicale o qualsiasi altro tipo di asset digitale.

A Giugno Meta aveva annunciato il supporto agli NFT ed a Luglio erano partiti i primi test. Le intenzioni erano quelle di permettere la compra vendita degli NFT tramite Instagram e Facebook, utilizzando i social come vetrina per supportare i creators con dei guadagni dovuti proprio alle attività su questi.

E’ la seconda volta che un progetto di Meta legato alla blockchain fallisce.

Nel 2022 gli NFT suscitavano un fortissimo interesse che via via sta scemando anche se girano ancora tantissimi soldi intorno a questo progetto. A Gennaio 2023 il volume di affari è stato di 780 milioni di dollari mentre a Febbraio si sono superati i 2 miliardi di dollari anche se il numero di token scambiati è inferiore rispetto al mese precedente.
