Apple acquista Coherent Navigation, per una localizzazione GPS precisa al centimetro!

Proprio ieri abbiamo parlato di Apple intenzionata a rivoluzionare l’applicazione Mappe attraverso nuove offerte di lavoro, ed oggi scopriamo che l’azienda di Cupertino ha acquisito un’altra società chiamata Coherent Navigation, specializzata nella navigazione satellitare ad alta precisione.

L’azienda che ormai è diventata parte integrante di Apple, è stata fondata nel 2008 da scienziati delle università di Cornell e Stanford. Il loro lavoro ha dato vita ad un business interessante che ha fatto gola perfino ad Apple e che trova la sua identità nella localizzazione di nuova generazione.

Grazie all’utilizzo di satelliti GPS tradizionali che orbitano ad alta quota, e di nuovi satelliti che orbitano a più bassa quota gestiti dal consorzio Iridium, Coherent Navigation riesce ad ottenere dati precisi al centimetro, rispetto ai precedenti che sono precisi al metro.

Questa tecnologia è chiamata High Integrity GPS e deriva da un investimento in ambito militare. L’azienda in questione è soltanto l’ultima di tante che agiscono in ambito di Mappe, posizionamento dei satelliti e di punti di interesse. Il futuro di Mappe è sicuramente roseo.
